Through the funding of the Office of Competitive Fellowships and Awards, I conducted research regarding the use of social media in an art classroom to enhance student learning.

Looking at the performance artist Nick Cave, students were inspired to create masks. Unique materials were given to the students to create the masks and help them focus on the principles of design to create a cohesive work of art.

After the masks were created, students looked at various performance art works from the social media platform TikTok. Inspired by artists including, Isabelle Chaput, Nelson Tiberghien, Emmanuel Beranger, Svitlana Zavialova (Wu Woman), students created a collaboritive preforming art work.

Students were given identical questions before and after the lesson. The graphs represent student answers from the questions given. To conclude, more students felt that art lessons would be more interesting if teachers used social media to teach about artists and art history and that performance art is interesting to them.
