New Song Academy Workshop
Choosing a theme that aligns with the National Standards of Art Education, eighth grade students from the New Song School in Baltimore City came to Towson University to learn about the history of mandalas and how they relate to identity.

01
Preparation
Preparation for the Mandala workshop included making an example of the final product and building the trifold so that all of the information needed to complete the project was provided.
02
Teaching

Students learned how to create a circular pattern using one quarter. The single quarter depicted aspects of their identity. These aspects included the Black Lives Matter movement, shapes relating to family members, and forms that express maturity and kindness. Students then chose colors they identified with.

03
Conclusion
The final product is a beautifully crafted bandana. Each student came up with different approaches in creating the circular mandala design. The best part about art is that no way is the correct way to do art, which is shown in the varied outcomes each student came up with.
